ANOTHER SILVER FOR INDIA AS NISHAD KUMAR SETS ASIA’S NEWEST RECORD AT MEN’S HIGH JUMP

India wins the second silver medal on the same day as brilliant athlete Nishad Kumar cleared 2.06m in the men’s high jump T47 event in the Tokyo Paralympics. USA’s Roderick Townsend became the world’s number one while Dallas Wise posed as the third by scoring a tie with Nishad. The small village boy from Himachal’s Una district, today Nishad sets a record in the whole continent.

The great win also brought back the heart-wrenching memory of Nishad Kumar’s tragic childhood when he lost his right hand in a fodder-cutting machine. His father, Raspal Singh has been a mason and growing up has been a really tough journey for Nishad. This excellent win has been proof that nothing could demolish Nishad’s undying optimism and effort. His proud father emotionally stated that Nishad’s win made them all forget how hard life has been to the family. Also, he has dedicated his success in life to Nishad’s coach Ramesh who has been guiding him since he developed an interest in sports.

21 years old Nishad’s win is proof that absolutely nothing can stop a person from achieving success in life. The silver medal he won is a reminder to all those who wish to fight for themselves. From Virender Sehwag to the golden boy Neeraj Chopra, everyone congratulated Nishad; while Gautam Gambhir tweets, “You have jumped right into our hearts…”
