Personal Life

Dilip Joshi was born in Gujarat in 1968. His family has been originated from the Gosha village of Porbandar. He is the youngest of four siblings. The actor has always dreamt of becoming an actor. He pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from N. M. School of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. While doing B. Com, he started acting in theatre. Joshi even received Indian National Theatre Best Actor Award twice within that short period. His performance started mesmerizing the jury and critics from the very time, he began to pursue his goal.

Dilip Joshi is married to Malatula. The couple has two children, Niyati and Ritvik.

Career & Filmography

Joshi got his first chance on the big screen in 1989 in Maine Pyaar Kiya. After that, he never had to step back. Not only Hindi, but he has also worked in Gujarati television dramas. His television career began with Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Woh in 1995. He acts in comedy-dramas mostly. His brilliant work has always been praised. After that show, he entered Kya Baat Hai (1997) and continued acting in numerous shows that are Daal Mein Kya (1998), Kora Kagaz (1998), Do Aur Do Paanch (1998), Hum Sab Ek Hain (1998), Yeh Duniya Hai Rangeen (1999), Sewalal Mewalal (2000), Rishtey – The Love Stories (2001), Shubh Mangal Savadhan (2002), Meri Biwi Wonderful (2002), Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Dhoom (2004), Kudkudiya House No 43 (2004), Hum Sab Baraati (2004), Bhagwan Bachaye Inko (2004), F.I.R (2007), and Agadam Bagdam Tigdam (2007).

He started working in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in 2008, and the show is still named with the topmost hit dramas in Indian Television.

In 2010, he was awarded the 3rd Bororplus Gold Awards for ‘Best Comic Actor (Popular)’ and Lions Gold Awards for ‘Best Actor (Comedy)’. He got the 4th Boroplus Gold Awards for the same category as the previous year, BIG Star Entertainment Awards for ‘Most Entertaining Actor’, Apsara Awards for ‘Best Actor in Drama Series’, and Lions Gold Awards for ‘Best Actor (Comedy)’ in 2011. 

In 2012 Dilip Joshi was honored with the 11th Indian Telly Awards for ‘Most Popular Actor in a Comic Role’, 5th Boroplus Gold Awards for ‘Best Comic Actor (Popular)’, People’s Choice Awards India for ‘Best TV Actor – Comedy’, and the 12th Indian Television Academy Awards for ‘Best Actor Comedy’. He got the 12th Indian Telly Awards for ‘Best Actor in a Comic Role (Popular)’ in 2013. 

Dilip Joshi also received the Zee Gold Awards for ‘Best Actor in Comic Role (Male)’, and 14th Indian Television Academy Awards for ‘Best Actor – Comedy’ in 2014. In 2016, he won Zee Gold Awards for ‘Best Actor in Comic Role (Male)’. 2017 brought him Lions Gold Awards for ‘Best Actor – Comedy’. The next year he received Zee Gold Awards for ‘Best Actor – Comedy’, and in 2019, he won the 15th Indian Telly Awards for ‘Best Actor in a Comic Role (Jury).’
