Dancer-choreographer Punit J. Pathak is an amazing performer, as well as a brilliant human being. This Maharashtrian dancer was first seen on national television on Dance India Dance Season 2 in 2009. His struggles to become what he wanted to be, became real and thence after, he never had to look back. The whole nation had witnessed his excellence, and his work is appreciated by many till now. Early Life

Punit Pathak was born to Jayesh and Vijaya Pathak in Mumbai in 1987. His schooling was done from Bombay Cambridge School, Mumbai, and later, he graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. He has always wanted to break the stereotypical way of leading life. A cricketer or a filmmaker was what he wished to be. But he had to face his fair share of struggle to become what he is today. While in college, he developed an interest in dancing and wanted to make a career out of it. But his family was against it and wanted him to look after the family business. Although, finally, Punit broke the barriers and came to the auditions of DID Season 2.


Punit mesmerized the judges of DID in his very dance audition and ultimately came out of the show as the 2nd runner up. In the same year (2010), he joined another popular dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 4 as, a choregrapher. Later he choreographed Shibani Dandekar in Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 5 (2012), Lauren Gottlieb in Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 6 (2013), and Mouni Roy in Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 7 (2014). In between these, Punit debuted in Bollywood with ABCD: Any Body Can Dance in 2013, which was directed by Remo D’Souza. Worked with some renowned actors like Kay Kay Menon, Prabhu Deva, and star choreographer Ganesh Acharya.

He worked in Dance India Dance Season 5 (2015) as a mentor along with Mithun Chakraborty, Mudassar Khan, and Gaiti Siddiqui. He became the winning mentor of the show. In the same year, Punit acted in ABCD 2. He also choreographed one of the famous songs, Chunar, in the movie. Later in 2016, he sat as a captain in Dance Plus 2 along with Dharmesh Yelande and Shakti Mohan. He became the winning captain in Dance Plus for back-to-back two years in both season 2 (2017) and season 3 (2018). Punit worked as the head choreographer in India’s Next Superstars (2018).

Punit entered the popular reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 9 in 2019 and became the winner. He also acted as one of the lead characters in the movie Nawabzaade (2018) with Raghav Juyal and Dharmesh Yelande. He, again, was seen in Dance Plus 5 (2019) as a captain with Dharmesh, Karishma Chavan, and Suresh Mukund.

Punit has worked as a choreographer in many television shows such as Aaj Ki Raat Zindagi (2015), Dil Hai Hindustani (2017), India Banega Manch (2017), Dance Champions (2017), and Big Boss (2018). He performed and appeared as a guest in reality shows like DID 3 (2012), Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 8 (2015), Nach Baliye 7 (2015), Entertainment Ki Raat (2017), Dance Deewane (2018), High Fever (2018), Sabse Smart Kaun (2018), Dil Hai Hindustani 2 (2018), Khatra Khatra Khatra (2019), Kitchen Champion (2019), Dance Deewane 2 (2019), Nach Baliye 9 (2019), Kapil Sharma Show (2020), and lastly, India’s Best Dancer (2020).

Punit has choreographed some music videos that are Balle Balle – The Musical (2017), Ishq Ne (2019). He starred in Street Dancer 3D in 2020 and also choreographed co-star Varun Dhawan for the song Dua Karo. In the same year, he worked as a director for the music videos Tera Kya Hota and Bhula Dunga.

Recently, on August 26, 2020, he got engaged to his long-time rumored girlfriend Nidhi Moony Singh, and since then, his fans were eagerly waiting for his marriage.
