Ravi Patel is a popular American writer-actor. The American actor has portrayed multiple Indian characters over the years with ease. He has also directed an autobiographical documentary with his sister called Meet the Patels. The talented actor has worked on over 70 projects, including commercials, movies, and television series.

Early Life

Ravi Patel was born to a Gujarati-originated family on 18th December 1978. Ravi birthplace is Freeport, Illinois, U.S.A. Ravi’s father, Vasant Patel, was a financial consultant. His mother, Champa Patel, was a real estate agent. His childhood was spent in Charlotte in North Carolina. He has a sister named Geeta.

In 2001, Patel completed his graduation with double majors in International Studies and Economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His sister Geeta Patel is a director and writer. Ravi worked as an investment banker upon graduation. Later, when he moved to LA, Patel co-founded the poker magazine All In.

Career

Patel’s on-screen career began in 2006 with Boys & Girls Guide to Getting Down. The comedy movie had its world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival. With a 9-to-5 job on hand and being a stand-up improv artist, Patel went on to audition, and it led him to get signed in more than twenty commercials in a single year.  the same year, he worked in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

In 2007, he was seen in Scrubs and Transformers. In 2008, he starred in several episodes of Easy Money that was aired on The CW. Patel worked in Past Life and The Last Hurrah in 2010. In 2011, he acted in an episode of Outsourced and worked in Five. Later in 2014, Patel, with his sister Geeta, co-directed his autobiographical romantic-comedy documentary Meet the Patels. The show surrounded his struggle to find an Indian wife. Later, the director duo was signed by FOX Searchlight Pictures for a sequel of the hit documentary.

Patel starred in the television series Master of None and Grandfathered, and the film Puerto Ricans in Paris, in 2015. He was seen in numerous TV dramas and movies, including Grey’s Anatomy (2016), Santa Clarita Diet (2017), The Great Indoors (2017), American Housewife (2017), The Cool Kids (2018), Come as You Are (2019), Long Shot (2019), and many more.

Patel also starred as a supporting character in Netflix’s Hindi rom-com Bhaag Beanie Bhaag in 2020. He was last seen in Wonder Woman 1984 in the same year. He has also created a docuseries with HBO Max, which is named Pursuit of Happiness. The show was produced by CNN.

Patel has done a commendable job by co-founding This Bar Saves Lives. It donates meal packets to the needy for every granola bar they sell. Patel has also invested in organizations that promote health and wellness.
